Aug 2020: Oud Holland publishes three new reviews
Three New Book and Exhibition Reviews
25 August 2020
For the summer 2020 edition of Oud Holland Reviews, three new contributors explore the modes of drawings and etchings – mostly from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries – as well as the importance of nineteenth-century Dutch and Belgium painters.
Sarah van Ooteghem gives her take on the recent exhibition and publication, Jan Brueghel: A magnificent draughtsman, held at the Snijders&Rockox House in Antwerp – deciphering the catalogue and the exhibition equally in detail. Joyce van Zelen discusses the growth of the art of etching and its spread across Europe shortly after its invention, reviewing the publication The Renaissance of etching, and its accompanying exhibition’s second venue, at the Albertina Museum in Vienna. Lastly, Frances Fowle gracefully unravels the most recent survey publication on nineteenth-century Dutch painters, and the increasing attention being paid to them, in her review of Jenny Reynaert’s, Mirror of reality: Nineteenth-century painting in the Netherlands.
Oud Holland wishes our readers a happy, healthy and safe remainder of summer 2020.
