Nov 2021: Oud Holland publishes three new reviews
Three New Oud Holland Book and Exhibition Reviews
6 November 2021
For the third 2021 edition of Oud Holland Reviews, Lyckle de Vries critically compares the Nicolaes Maes and Pieter De Hooch exhibitions, and their accompanying catalogues. The exhibitions were held at, respectively, the Mauritshuis in The Hague and the National Gallery in London, and the Museum Prinsenhof in Delft, in late-2019 and throughout early-2020. Micha Leeflang reviews Museum Helmond's exhibition and catalogue on Lucas Van Gassel. She centers her focus on the artist's workshop practices and the recent technical research into his work, and the importance of large-scale reproductions of those results to art historians. Lastly, William W. Robinson pens a thorough critique of the oversized, new edition of Rembrandt's drawings and etchings – 'bookending' Oud Holland’s earlier review of the, equally oversized publication on the artist's paintings.
Oud Holland wishes our readers a pleasant autumn.
